Carl Wuermer was born in 1900 in Munich, Germany. His addresses included New York City and Woodstock, NY. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago 1920-24 and at the Art Students League with Wellington Jarad Reynolds. His memberships included Allied Artists of America, the Artist Fellowship (President 1957-59), the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts and the Woodstock Art Association, among others.
Just a few of the exhibitions he participated in included the Society of Independent Artists, 1924; the Art Institute of Chicago 1926 (prize), 1927 (prize); the PA Academy of the Fine Arts, 1927-29, 1931-35; the National Academy of Design (prize); Grand Central Art Gallery 1929 (prize), 1930 (solo), 1934 (solo), 1938 (solo), 1943 (solo), and 1945 (prize); the Corcoran Gallery Biennials, 1928-32 (3 times); Painting in the United States, and at Carnegie Institute, 1946-48 (Popular Vote prize).> Source: Who was Who in American Art.
